In 2024, the Royal Montreal Golf Club will host the President Cup 2024 once again. Joining Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia, as the second international location to hold the Presidents Cup more than once is Royal Montreal, which hosted the event in 2007. North Carolina’s Quail Hollow Club served as the 2022 Presidents Cup host. The prestigious golf tournament is being hosted by Canada, which makes them the “International” host nation this year. The event alternates between the United States and an International nation. The confirmed dates are September 24–29, 2024. Jim Furyk is the captain of Team USA, and Mike Weir is the captain of Team International. A group of men’s golf matches known as the Presidents Cup pits an American team against an international squad that stands in for the rest of the globe, except Europe. View the next tournament hosts. Details of the Event
The Presidents Cup has been held in practically every country in the globe throughout its almost three-decade existence, including Australia, the United States, Canada, South Africa, and Korea. The Royal Melbourne and Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia are the only two locations that have hosted the Presidents Cup on several occasions. The third team to be granted access to this elite list is Royal Montreal. The golf tournament is distinct from others in that it features a stadium-like setting with grandstands, a wide range of hospitality choices, foreign food, and a good sense of community that infuses the surrounding towns with the spirit of golf before the event.
Teams for the Presidents Cup
There are 12 players on each side, including 4 captain’s choices and 8 automatic qualifiers. Selectees for the United States national team are based on the FedEx Cup standings. The best eight non-European international players at the time of selection make up the International Team, along with four captain’s choices.
Presidents Cup Play Schedule
The Presidents Cup competition has a distinct playing structure. spanning four days in a row, starting on Thursday, September 22, and ending on Sunday, September 25, 2022. Team matches consisting of alternate shots (foursomes) and better ball (four-balls) are played across three days, with Sunday singles coming after. Thirty total points are awarded based on a hole-by-hole scoring system. This is not the Ryder Cup, which consists of 28 points and lasts three days.
Style:
Day 1: Fourballs on Thursday
Day 2 – Friday: Pairs
On Saturday, Day 3: Fourballs followed by Foursomes
Sunday, Day 3: Singles
In the event of a tie at the conclusion of the singles round, both teams will split the Presidents Cup. In contrast, the team who won the Ryder Cup 2023 the previous time around would keep the trophy.
Details of Golf Courses
Founded in 1873, Royal Montreal is the oldest golf club in North America. Up until 1884, when Queen Victoria approved the use of the “Royal” prefix, it was known as the Montreal Golf Club. The club relocated over the years until settling in 1959 at Ile Bizard, where Dick Wilson built 45 holes. Rees Jones modified The Blue Course, which is listed in the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses. The Royal Canadian Golf Association was founded by five clubs, including Royal Montreal, and will celebrate its 129th anniversary in 2024. From 1908 until 2014, the Club hosted the Canadian Open on several occasions.
