World Championships 2023
The best athletes in the world, from over 200 countries, will compete for gold at the 2023 World Championships in Athletics in Budapest, which will take place from August 19 to 27!
The biggest event in Hungary’s sporting history, the World Championships in Athletics, will be held from August 19 to 27, 2023, in Budapest. This sporting event is the third-most important in the world after the football world championship and the Olympic Games.
Over 2,000 athletes in Hungary will compete during the nine days of competition in the brand new National Athletics Center, specially built for this purpose, with its capacity to accommodate 35,000 spectators.
This global event will begin on August 19, 2023, with the men’s 20-kilometer walk event. Another event of this first day in the evening is the men’s 4x400m relay race, which is final, and the finish of the women’s 10,000m!

Marathon Course and Walking Events
The marathon runners and walkers of the Budapest 2023 World Championships in Athletics will compete in the heart of Budapest!
Marathon runners will cover the classic distance on a 10-kilometer course, crossing the most beautiful districts of Budapest, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The start and finish areas will be on the Place des Héros, as well as for the 20 and 35-km walking events. These six road races will be free and accessible to all spectators.
In the closing weekend of the world championships, the world’s best marathon runners will hit the streets of Budapest on Saturday, August 26, followed a day later on Sunday, August 27, by the men’s race.

National Athletics Championships 2023
This new stadium, whose construction began at the end of 2020, will offer over 35,000 seats to sports fans during the world championships, then be reduced to 15,000 seats. This project will not be limited to the nine days of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Indeed, besides becoming the premier competition venue and training center for Hungarian athletics, the project will also create Budapest’s brand-new Green Sports and Recreation Center, providing opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Not only to athletes but also to the public. The park surrounding the stadium will cover an area of approximately 50,000 m2, with hundreds of trees and nearly 18,000 shrubs.

In the 9th district of the Hungarian capital, Pest, the stadium is built on the eastern bank of the Danube, south of the city. It will be accessible by different public transportation methods
Tram line 2: arrival station ‘Közvagohid, then an 8-minute walk (about 600m).
Tram line 24: arrival station ‘g Közvágóhid hid, then 10 min walk.
Urban train line 7 (‘HÉV’ in Hungarian): stop ‘Lágymányosi had’ then 15 min walk. This short line 7 mainly concerns those who will be close to the station ‘Borarou Tér’, which is the only one to connect to the station ‘Lágymányosi had’.
By bus with lines 55, 223E, and 224 at the stops ‘g Közvágóhid hid hid ’-
